Khadiradi Vati (Gutika)  herbal ayurvedic remedy applied for mouth ulcer, other diseases of teeth, gums, tongue, pharyngitis (sore throat) and throat.

Khadiradi Vati is basically an oral antiseptic, astringent, anti-inflammatory, and expectorant. Must be used to cure sore throat and tonsillitis or infections of tonsils.

Khadiradi Vati formulation is different from brand to brand and preference of manufacturer, Patanjali is a reputed and trusted brand in India other reputed brands are Baidyanath and Zandu, but it must contain Khadira Saar  – Catechu as main ingredients. The major ingredient of Khadiradi Vati is Catechu it contains Flavonoid.

Benefits and medicinal uses are as follows:

Laryngitis (Hoarseness or Loss of Voice)

The anti-inflammatory and soothing action of Khadiradi Vati reduces inflammation of larynx (voice box). It provides a clear voice and reduces hoarseness by reducing irritation and swelling of the vocal cord.

If hoarseness is caused by overuse, then Ashwagandha Churna or Ashwagandha extract should also be used with milk in addition to Khadiradi Vati.

Sitopaladi Churna, Yashad (Jasad) Bhasma and Gandhak Rasayan with honey should also be used with Khadiradi Vati for quick relief.

Mouth Ulcers & Stomatitis

Khadiradi Vati reduces pain and burning sensation associated with mouth ulcer. It reduces inflammation of mucus membranes, which gives relief in Stomatitis. For best results, Mulethi (Yashtimadhu) should also be used in such condition.

Sore Throat (Pharyngitis)

In combination with Sitopaladi Churna, Yashad (Jasad) Bhasma and Gandhak Rasayan, taking Khadiradi Vati provides quick relief in the sore throat by its emollient (soothing) action. In addition to this, Khadiradi Vati also inhibits the growth of bacteria, which may be a cause of sore throat.

Tonsillitis & Tonsils Infections

Khadiradi Vati may not alone work in tonsil infections, so it is used along with Sitopaladi Churna, Yashad (Jasad) Bhasma and Gandhak Rasayan. However, it helps reduce irritation, pain and inflammation of the tonsils.

Dosage & Administration

Khadiradi Vati is actually used as lozenges. The general dosage of Khadiradi Vati is as follows.

Children 1 Tablet (twice or thrice daily)
Adults 1 Tablet (4 to 6 times a day)

Safety Profile

It is POSSIBLY SAFE for a short duration.

Side Effects

Khadiradi Vati contains Natural Camphor, camphor can lead to derived from the Camphor tree. May lead to severe side effects.

The common side effects with high doses of camphor are:

  1. Abdominal pain
  2. Nausea
  3. Vomiting
  4. Vertigo
  5. Restlessness
  6. Dysuria
  7. Seizures

If any of these symptoms appear, one should immediately stop taking Khadiradi Vati and seek immediate medical attention. The chronic side effects may include:

  1. Debility
  2. Anaemia
  3. Sleepiness


Khadiradi Vati should not be used for a longer period or more than 7 days continuously.
