Established in the year 1969 by the Government of Sikkim, Temi tea plants are growing along the steep slopes of the hills emerging from the Tendong Hills; ranging from 120o to 1800 m.
Temi Tea Estate
The 177 hectares spread gardens of Temi produce premium quality tea leaves having international demand. The way to the processing plant, en route to Tendong Hill, is marked with well-trimmed cherry blossom trees amidst the fields lush with ferns and grazing grasses.
Once you reach the garden, the rewarding views of Khangchendzonga tampered in snow mesmerize the tourists completely and leave them in a state of awe.
Temi Tea Estate is the only tea garden existing in Sikkim producing about 1 Lakh kg of tea every year, that too using the organic method as per the guidelines of the Institute of Marketecology (IMO) of Switzerland.
Tea production in this estate has been switched over from the conventional method to the ‘Organic Method’ according to the guidelines of the Institute of Marketecology (IMO) of Switzerland. This conversion initiated in 2005 is reported to have been completed.
The changeover has involved the use of organic bio-fertilizers such as cattle manure, neem cakes, and vermin-composite manure replacing the chemical fertilizers used in the past. The Bangalore unit of IMO inspects the product every year and issues an IMO certificate.
The Manager of the Temi expects that as soon as the IMO declares the estate as an “organic garden”, the “products will fetch higher prices in the market” and that “Temi tea, produced in four grades, (would) find ready markets in European markets and Japan”.
The Tea Board has already started exporting to Canada and Japan in small quantities (100 kilograms (220 lb) of bulk tea at Rs 2500 per kg) at attractive prices.

An honest declaration – I was introduced to this tea a few months back by a family member who resides in Sikkim. So I was utterly surprised when i found this on Lelow Online and i found the pricing to be spot on.
The product arrived on time and packaging was pretty good though one of the packs, there was a mild inward dent but not to the extent where the inner contents were exposed to moisture or damaged. For the price this is a very good tea. All one needs to do i boil the water, add a teaspoon of tea into it (The ratio is simple – 1 teaspoon per cup/mug), and close the lid of the vessel with a cover, let the tea leaves rest till they release all the tea liquor into the hot water. I usually keep it for 5 – 7 minutes before straining the tea for consumption. One must remember that one can’t have it by adding milk or sugar in this tea. Feels quite refreshing and is addictive too (blame my taste buds!) .
I would recommend this to any tea lover who may want to try out something different than the usual.

As always Temi Tea satisfies with its flavor and the body and texture of the liquor. Requires nothing more than hot water. Actually, one teaspoon is good for 3 cups of tea. I got it well packed and recently June packed. Delivered on time. Forget the mostly adulterated Darjeelings available in the market, this Temi is genuine.
